This is a brilliant post, thank you Christoph , I will definitely look this site up and do something about it. Plus Tempelhof is very close to my heart , my father was in the RAF and part of the crews who flew in the what was the ‘Luftbruecke’ I was born during that time in Hildesheim when he was on one of the flights to Berlin


Rando’s “Berlin AirBridge” is taking off in a few days time and a lot of our donations are destined to the former Tempelhof Airport where now refugees are in temporary shelter.

Built as Hitler’s showpiece of Nazi Germany’s new power, used during the blockade by the USSR to provide food and keep WestBerlin alive before reopening as a commercial airport.12341421_10153143897486035_2211701631372594144_n

Closed less than 10 years ago, and instead of becoming a major exhibition centre generating revenue for the City of Berlin, it was decided to transfer the hangars into a shelter for 2700 refugees!
Not many airports can say they were a central part of so many major historical events of not only the 20th century, but now also the early 21st!
